APA WEBINAR: Planning for Hazards: Land Use Solutions for Drought and Cascading Impacts

October 29, 2019 @ 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. CST

The American Planning Association will host a free webinar on October 29, at 1 p.m. CST on how planners can use planning tools and strategies to incorporate drought-resilient measures into land use standards and the built environment. The webinar is part of a series on drought and cascading hazards developed in partnership with the National Drought Mitigation Center and supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This webinar features a discussion by Shannon Burke, APA’s Hazards Planning Manager and Board Member of the Natural Hazard Mitigation Association, and Anne Miller, AICP, Director of the Colorado Resiliency Office (CRO) in the Department of Local Affairs. Participants will learn about:

  • Drought and the interrelatedness of hazards
  • How planners can address drought
  • State and local efforts to integrate resilience and hazard mitigation principles into plans, codes, and standards related to land use and the built environment
