Purpose. Recent earthquakes have resulted in poor performance of manufactured homes, indicating that there is much room for improvement. Homes falling off their support systems during earthquakes has been widespread, making them uninhabitable until they have been reinstalled and leveled at their intended location. Homes falling or sliding into utility hookups can sever gas and electrical lines resulting in fire ignition. In many cases, earthquake and wind bracing systems that have been installed with the intent to improve earthquake performance have not been seen to provide improvement. The purpose of this webinar is to: (1) provide an overview of regulations governing design and construction of manufactured homes and home installation; (2) review relevant performance issues observed in recent earthquakes; and (3) provide available guidance for improved earthquake performance of manufactured homes.
