The LEED for Cities and Communities Grant provides support to local governments pursuing certification under the LEED for Cities and Communities rating system.

Apply by Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. EST

The 2020 application is open now and up to 20 U.S. local governments will be selected to participate. For more details, read the announcement.


Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. EST: Deadline to apply
Feb. 7: Grant recipients notified
Feb. 21: Public announcement of communities
Mid-March: Orientation program in Washington, D.C.
Dec. 31: End of formal program year

Application tips

Strong applications have buy-in and support from top local government officials and community partners to pursue certification.

Demonstrate how joining the cohort can help advance identified community sustainability goals.

The certification process takes a well-organized team, applicants should describe how their team will execute the data collection process to certify.

Describe how LEED certification is an important next step in advancing sustainability community-wide and how certification will be a catalyst to transformation.

All communities face barriers to advancing sustainability, strong applications will describe how the grant program will help overcome these barriers.
