Graduate Research Assistantship in the
Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources
at
Colorado State University
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This 12-month graduate research assistantship (GRA) is available for a Ph.D student entering the graduate program in the Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fall 2015. The GRA will work on a recently awarded project to assess public wildlife values and wildlife agency governance in all 50 U.S. states.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1) assist with research to assess characteristics and approaches to state wildlife agency governance and determine how they relate to public wildlife values and levels of trust in the agencies; and 2) assist principle investigators and research associates with overall project coordination and logistics throughout all project phases.
The GRA selected is expected to:
– apply for and be accepted to the Ph.D program in the Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources
– spend a minimum of twenty hours a week working on project-related research and coordination tasks
The assistantship provides:
– full graduate tuition waiver and a monthly stipend
– valuable research experience as part of the education received in the doctoral program at CSU
– office space and computer facilities
The GRA will be selected in the spring of 2015, and work will begin in May/June, 2015. The position will be reviewed annually and, contingent upon performance and on available funds, be appointed to additional year appointments as necessary for completion of the degree program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Selection of the GRA is made on a competitive basis using the following criteria:
- A combined minimum of 305 (~1100 under old scoring system) verbal and quantitative GRE scores. In addition, the candidate must have a baccalaureate degree with a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and a graduate GPA of at least 3.5 (if graduate courses have been taken).
- Candidate must have a specific interest in the area of human dimensions of wildlife conservation and in entering a program that, more broadly, emphasizes study in social science theory and applications in environmental conservation.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have advanced experience in qualitative and quantitative social science research methodology, including psychometrics and multivariate statistical analysis.
- Candidate must be motivated and hard working. He/she must work well independently and as part of a team.
