HMDR Division approved by APA Board of Directors

On behalf of the Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Recovery Planning Interest Group’s executive committee, I am pleased to inform you that the Group’s petition to form an APA Division was approved by the APA Board on Saturday.  This action by the Board of Directors of the American Planning Association begins a series of steps to organize the new Division.

There will soon be additional announcements from Executive Committee members Gavin Smith, Michele Steinberg, Rich Roths and Darrin Punchard, plus APA staff, about organizational arrangements.  In the meantime, please congratulate yourselves for the successful petition drive and Board approval!   Thanks to all, and particularly those members of this interest group who have strived for years to make this Division a reality.  Thanks also to APA staff members for their help.
Let me also acknowledge the special role of David Gattis, FAICP, APA’s Divisions Council Advisor to the Board, who shepherded this proposal through the Divisions Council and last week’s Board of Director’s meeting.  Other arrangements and the website are assisted by Michael Schuler, AICP
