Public Policy and Advocacy

The Public Policy and Advocacy Committee

The Public Policy and Advocacy Committee tracks and elevates national policies that shape the effectiveness of hazard mitigation practice across the full disaster lifecycle, helping communities achieve measurable risk reduction and stronger long-term recovery solutions. Our work spans developing white papers on emerging federal and state policy issues, creating practical reference materials for practitioners, and amplifying the voices of local and under-resourced communities in national mitigation conversations. We coordinate with partners on key programs such as FEMA mitigation initiatives and national resilience forums, ensuring that NHMA members and allies stay informedep, prared to comment on policy changes, and equipped with tools to connect mitigation, recovery, and climate adaptation on the ground.
